Liz Lyons Friedman, originally from New York, studied art earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Printmaking from Daemen College and a Masters Degree in Art from the State University of New York at Buffalo.

Exhibiting since the seventies, Liz's work has been shown and sold in galleries in Buffalo, San Francisco, Carmel, Capitola  and Los Angeles.  Her works have been accepted in juried exhibitions in Arizona, Colorado, California, New Mexico, New York, Florida and Connecticut.

   In 2008 Liz's Aptos, California studio and art work were featured in a hardcover book showcasing 28 creative spaces from New York to Santa Cruz.   Exterior and interior photographs of Liz's studio, along with photos of Liz working are included in "Stylish Sheds and Elegant Hideaways" by Debra Prinzing, published by Clarkson Potter / Random House. The eight page chapter featuring Liz's studio and work is called a "A Garden Gallery".

 

   Liz's artwork was also chosen for the 2002, 1994, and 1990 Capitola Begonia Festival Posters, the 2003 Capitola Art & Wine Festival T-shirt and the 1999 Capitola Art & Wine Festival Poster.

 

   In 1995 one of Liz's intaglio prints was selected by Paper Maché Press for the book cover of Inland Sea by Jenny Joseph author of the lead poem from When I am an Old Woman I Shall Wear Purple. Choice, Inc Gallery of San Francisco published Liz's serigraph, "The Kiss", as it's first fine art poster and sold this poster through the Nature Company, the Horchow Catalog of Dallas, Texas and through Museum Editions New York. "The Kiss" received the Simpson Paper Company's Award of Excellence.

 

   Liz's taught art full time at the high school level for many years, served as Art Department Chairperson at a Jesuit High School in New York, and taught at the Community College level in California.  Liz's artwork can be found in both corporate and private collections throughout the United States and Canada. Liz Lyons Friedman has been a participant of the annual "Open Studios" sponsored by the Santa Cruz County Cultural Council since it's inception in 1986.  This event takes place annually in October.
